intro to champions

Today, we’re diving into how to get and strengthen your champions in DC: Dark Legion. Let’s build your dream team!
obtaining champions
If you’ve picked up the game and you’re anxious about how to start or which champions to focus on, this guide will help you make the best decisions for your account whether you’re a non-spender, lite spender, or whale.
pre-registration rewards

In general, the early advice is going to apply to all levels of spending. If you were able to lock in pre-registration rewards for your account by participating in the Global Launch event in March 2025, you’ll have the opportunity to choose from five free champions to add to your account (Harley Quinn, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Flash). The choice does heavily depend on whether you plan to spend, but in our opinion, all players should skip Wonder Woman and Flash, due to how easy it is to obtain their shards in-game. Green Lantern is tempting, but he is only available through a virtual VIP system that means even if you select him here, getting four more copies of him will cost you hundreds of dollars. So that leaves Harley and Batman. Personally, I recommend that non-spenders choose Harley, since you can get another copy of her with the 7-Day Login Reward. Lite spenders can optionally choose Batman, since you can obtain additional shards through the Batman starter packs.
7-day login rewards

There’s not much to flag here, other than the fact that obtaining both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy early on will make it easier for you to add stars to both of them in the first few weeks of your account and this will make your experience much more enjoyable.
path of justice

The Path of Justice is an untimed event that shows up for all new players where you can complete 100 quests for a Mythic Hero Selector card. This card will give you 10 shards of a mythic from a limited pool, which will be enough to either unlock the champion for the first time, or start adding some stars. My recommendations here are either to choose Poison Ivy, who is one of the best healers in the game with enough investment, or Lex Luthor, who can provide solid DPS and has amazing synergy with several Bleed limited champions like Scarecrow, Deathstroke, and Sinestro. These two champions are recommended because Poison Ivy can be obtained during the 7-Day Login event and 20 shards of Lex Luthor can be obtained by beating the first 100 levels in Training Simulator.
Mother boxes

Mother Boxes are going to be one of the best forms of shard acquisition for non-spenders, but they form a very important part of the game for all players. You’ll be saving them up to spend at various points during Supreme Commander, and when you do, you’ll likely generate quite a few mythic shards. We’ve got some helpful resources here on the website and in Quantum’s YouTube video library that can help you with Supreme Commander when you’re ready to learn more.
purchasing shards
For lite spenders, purchasing shards using either in-game currencies (like League Contribution or Meta Brawl tokens) or using real money can be great ways to bolster your account. You will want to be careful which champions you purchase and when to stop, because there are diminishing returns. In general, the Batman starter packs are a very good value, especially the first one you can purchase. The next best value is going to be the Daily Deals. This will allow you to purchase up to 10 shards of various heros each day. You can buy two, three, or five shards at a time, or just buy the full 10. I think this is another opportunity to level up your Lex Luthor and Poison Ivy quickly, but most of the 10-shard (non-Bleed) mythics are available here, so you’ll have options no matter what team you’re trying to build.I mentioned purchasing shards through the various stores. You can currently purchase Shazam or Flash in the League Store, but I really do not recommend doing so, especially not for non-spenders and realistically lite spenders should only do so up to White 5. A vast majority of League Store currency should go to Quantum Components. For Meta Brawl store, you can purchase Raven and Bane shards once you reach a certain level on the Arena ladder. However, this is another situation where non-spenders should be focusing on the Mother Box keys and other resources like Stimulators, and lite spenders should only be making purchases if they plan to build those champions for a specific team composition.
custom mythic shards and random shards
From time to time, you may earn custom mythic selector cards or random legendary or mythic shards. These may be earned from Darkest Timeline, League Trains, limited time seasonal events like the board game (Valentine’s, Easter, and Mother’s Day), and possibly other events in the future. Typically, the selector cards will include a separate (more limited) pool from the Daily Deals shop, but there are a lot of solid options to choose from.
the bleed
Lastly, and most importantly for the long-term success of your account, you’ll want to accumulate and use World Anvil Fragments to draw for champions and legacy pieces, with odds fluctuating based on which champions are featured at the time. This is the standard gacha element of the game. You can purchase anvils every eight hours in the Mystery Store, and I recommend non-spenders only buy the 60 gem and 180 gem options, which will allow you to save up the 3,000 gems required to buy gems at the Interstellar Visitor every Saturday. It’s really important to perform well in Supreme Commander as the engine to get you those 3,000 weekly gems, as it will help you buy 40 anvils a week (plus the daily mystery store anvils) without spending on the game. Keep in mind that if you notice your gem count going down, you’ll want to skip some of those daily Mystery Store deals. It’s a tough balance at times. Just make sure you’re planning ahead and saving anvils for the bleed champions that you really want. If you plan to min-max your account, you may even need to skip S-tier champions at times. Don’t’ worry, we’ve got plenty of resources to help you make these decisions, with more being created every week!
powering up champions

Levels: Increasing your War Room level will allow you to raise a champion’s level cap. Make sure you focus on only your five best champions.

Stars: You can obtain champions and their duplicates through various means already mentioned. It’s important to add stars to as many champions as you can, because stars are the best indicator of power for a champion. Legendary champions will be easier to star up, but mythics and limited mythics’ stats will scale better over time.

Legacy Pieces: You can obtain legacy pieces through the Bleed, Monitor’s Legacy Pass, and the House of Secrets. The House of Secrets legacy pieces are unique and can be equipped by specific champions, with very powerful skills that will transform some of the champions into true powerhouses. The best advice here is to try and match stats to champion roles (e.g., ATK for damage dealers, DEF and MEN for tanks, etc.).
Force (AC/DC Shards): Every champion has a Force “talent tree.” Upgrading these talents will either directly upgrade a champion’s basic abilities or improve the champion’s base stats. Usually, in addition to the three talents connected to the basic abilities, there are two or three talents that affect more important stats (like Crit Rate, Spiritual AMP, Crit RES, or Physical PEN). I usually prioritize those first and circle back to upgrade the basic HP, ATK, and DEF/MEN stats. Non-spenders and even lite spenders will feel the crunch for AC/DC shards for months at the start of a new account, so choose wisely and try to limit the amount of champions you’re upgrading force on to your top five to seven unless you’re a whale.

Gear: You can craft and upgrade gear in the Armory. It’s going to take a while for even lite spenders to get to the point where you can transmute gear or obtain max-level gear, but you’ll want to push your Armory level as early and often as possible. You’ll be deconstructing excess gear to obtain Building Blocks, which will allow you to upgrade the room. At higher levels, look for gear that contains tag bonuses, which will provide a massive stat boost for champions who meet the criteria. This is probably the second or third most impactful way to power up your champions (behind stars and force), and it’s often one of the most overlooked.

Champion Reset: You can only reset champions from level 1-300 (be careful because you CANNOT reset invested AC/DC shards).
Level Sync: Only level up five champions. The others should be placed into the level-sync feature in your Training Nexus room. This will allow you to conserve resources.
Key Takeaways
Strategic Early Champion Acquisition is Crucial: Focus on pre-registration rewards (Harley for non-spenders, potentially Batman for lite spenders), utilize the 7-Day Login for Harley and Poison Ivy, and leverage the Path of Justice for Poison Ivy or Lex Luthor to build a strong early foundation.Mother Boxes are a Key Resource, Especially for Non-Spenders: Save and strategically use Mother Boxes to acquire mythic shards, which are essential for champion progression.Smart Spending on Shards Can Accelerate Progress for Lite Spenders: Prioritize valuable purchases like the first Batman starter pack and Daily Deals, focusing on key champions like Lex Luthor and Poison Ivy, while being cautious of diminishing returns and less efficient store options. The "Bleed" is Vital for Long-Term Success: Accumulate World Anvil Fragments through the Mystery Store and Interstellar Visitor and by performing well in Supreme Commander to draw for powerful champions and legacy pieces.
Powering Up Champions Involves Multiple Facets: Beyond leveling, prioritize starring up champions, equipping appropriate legacy pieces, strategically investing in Force (AC/DC shards), and developing gear with beneficial tag bonuses, while utilizing level sync to conserve resources.

INSTRUCTIONS: The slider works from both sides.Option One: Move the right slider ONLY to determine the UPGRADE COST per Apokolips level AND the TOTAL COST.Option Two: Move the left slider to your current position and the right slider to a desired future position to determine how many Quantum Compenents you will need to get there. You can also use the two input fields ("FROM LEVEL" and "TO LEVEL") to type the number in directly. NOTE: If you move the left slider, the "UPGRADE COST" number should be disregarded.
